Amanda Brugel
(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in the part of Montreal called the West Island. The West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time there was short. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. The first goal she had was to be a dancer however a rapid growth rate resulted in her outgrowing the dancers she was with. According to an article by Toronto Star, she revealed that in heels she was 6 foot 1 inch tall. When I reached the height of all my male partners and stopped dancing, I quit. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel it was because of the advice from her drama teacher at high school that led her to take the step she needed. The teacher encouraged her to try out for roles in her school's production. Following a trial, she ended up as the leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. It led to her receiving an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel's been performing in over 60 plays, large and small. One of the most memorable was when she landed Rita's role on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member in the season 1 of the series, and only seen occasionally.
